Fundraising - reduce dues and invest in the team

Many events  help defray the cost of Crew Membership.  Some have all profits go to the team (e.g. Restaurant fundraisers) while others provide a 50/50 or 80/20 split to the team.  We have Fall and Spring traditional fundraisers, such as the December Craft Fair, March Tag Day, and now year round SCRIP Program that we started in 2014.

Here is a little information on the SCRIP Program:

What is Scrip? The purchasing of gift cards / e-gift cards used exactly as you would use any gift card.

What does it cost? Just like any gift card, a $100 gift card is worth $100 at the merchant.

How is this fundraising? Each merchant offers a “rebate” based on a percentage of the total amount. Each merchant sets the percentage they want to offer – for example, LL Bean offers a whopping 16%, and Sunoco offers 1%. It is different for every merchant.

How do you learn more? Go to the Scrip website: https://www.shopwithscrip.com/ and start taking a look at all the merchants that participate!

How does it work? Fairfax HS Crew participates in Scrip fundraising in two different ways. For both options, families who wish to participate need to create a login account with Scrip. The two options we are supporting are PrestoPay ScripNow, in which you can order e-gift cards and the payment is directly debited from your bank account. The second option is ordering physical plastic gift cards, and paying for them by check. We do this at 2 or 3 set times per year because they charge shipping, so Scrip now and team led, bulk purchase of plastic cards is encouraged.

How does this help your bottom line? Say for example you want $100 worth of Barnes & Noble scrip. Their rebate is 9%. This means the scrip costs you $100 but Scrip rebates $9.00 back to the Crew Club! Then we split the rebate with you: you receive a $4.50 credit toward your dues, and Crew gets $4.50 in the general fund.  A winning combination!

How do you get started?  If you have any questions, send an email to sue.bee.newman@gmail.com, or during business hours you can call GLSC -- they are very helpful and their customer service people are great.

If you have not already done so I encourage everyone to give Scrip a try today. A few bucks here and there from the rebates might not seem like much but it adds up fast and is a super easy way to benefit Crew.
