Meet The Coaches!

Luce Taylor

Program Director, Head Coach

In just their first year leading Fairfax Crew, Coach Luce led both varsity women's boats to advance to finals in the VSRC state championships. Under their leadership, the W-JR-8 won silver medal at States and earned a trip to Nationals. Prior to joining Fairfax, Coach Luce was an assistant coach for W.T. Woodon HS from 2017-2021 and coached for Resilient from 2018-2021. Coach Luce was a successful cox for W.T. Woodson from 2009-2012, reaching the podium in the State Regatta in 3 of 4 years and finishing 4th at the Stotesbury regatta in 2012. Coach Luce earned a BS from Clemson in 2016.

Mikaela Woods

Novice and JV Women's Coach

Coach Mikaela is a DC native. She began rowing at Jackson-Reed High School’s Varsity team

(2014-2018), making it to Nationals once and a part of an eight that medaled in the DC-area

championships (WMIRA). During her college career, she joined the Ohio University Crew Club for

two years (2018-2020), doubling as a coach and rower and graduating in 2022. Coach Mikaela is a

teacher at Franklin Montessori School in VanNess, DC, and stays active through weight training,

yoga, and Pilates.

Ethan Winkler

Novice Men's Coach

Coach Ethan made an immediate impact on Fairfax Crew in his first year of coaching in 2023. He brought his personal experience as a successful Fairfax rower, including All-Met honorable mention in 2022. In addition to coaching for Fairfax, Coach Ethan is known as a motivational and popular coach at Row House in Fairfax. Coach Ethan still holds the all time record best 2K time for Fairfax Crew.
