Gwen began her coaching career in Northern Virginia and served the rowing community for many years in areas of fundraising, development of rowing programs, as well as regatta organization and support. With more than 17 years of rowing, sculling and coaching experience she will work to build and support a solid, competitive rowing program.
Her goal is to maintain a challenging and positive atmosphere where all rowers can reach and exceed goals, build confidence and be successful in their racing endeavors. In order to achieve a well-rounded program, the priority is to insure all rowers come away from their experience with a sense of achievement, satisfaction and pride in their accomplishments.
Gwen is a US Rowing Level 3 certified coach and continues her education through conferences, workshops and networking with other coaches.
Assistant Coach/Men's Novice Coach
John rowed during his sophomore-senior years of high school in New Jersey and for one year at Washington College in Chestertown, MD. Those years, he says, were some of the best of his life, and he can’t wait to bring that experience and enthusiasm to his assistant coaching job with the Fairfax High School crew team.
John has a BA degree in computer science with a minor in chemistry. He lives in Fairfax and when he isn't working with our crew team after school, he works as a software engineer for a company in Ashburn.
Assistant Coach/Women's Novice Coach
Marissa will graduate from George Mason University this December with a degree in kinesiology, and rowed as a student at Garfield High School and George Mason. She has coached women's novice teams at Lake Braddock and Justice (formerly Jeb Stuart) and is currently interning at the Row House.
"I enjoy coaching because rowing has drastically improved my own life in so many ways, and I love to be a part of that experience for others. For our Novice Women, I hope to create a space for growth, both physically and mentally, and of course to have fun while doing it. A lot of things are different right now due to COVID, and our season is no exception, but I am so excited for us to make the most of what we have.”
Chris is a Fairfax High School crew alum who served as our Men’s Coach last year. He rowed in the top men’s boat for Fairfax High School in 2015, 2016, and 2016, and mentored and coached for Reslient Rowing and coached at Thomas Jefferson High.
Chris was a strong and efffective coach last year, and has volunteered to assist us as his schedule allows.
