Meet The Coaches!

Ethan W.

Head Coach

Coach Ethan has made a significant impact on Fairfax Crew, since he first began coaching in 2023. He brings to the team his personal experience as a successful Fairfax rower, including All-Met Honorable Mention (2022) and holds the school 2k record. As a member of the George Mason University Rowing team, Coach Ethan received a National Level podium (2026). In addition to coaching for Fairfax High Crew, Coach Ethan is also a personal trainer at NOVA Strong Personal Training and Fitness (Bachelors in Kinesiology from George Mason University).

Gary G.

Assistant Coach

Coach Gary brings 30+ years coaching experience to Fairfax high school this year. He started coaching at George Mason University as the women’s novice and then varsity coach. After a short break, resumed coaching at the high school level. He has coached both the men and the women, novice and varsity. Over the years, Coach Gary has coached many winning boats with numerous trips to the medal dock.
He’s eager to help Fairfax rebuild and is looking forward to working with the novices this season. “Teaching proper technique, making it a fun experience for the rowers and getting them ready to advance to the next level” is his goal this year.
Coach Gary is retired and lives in Fairfax Station.

Michael L.

Assistant Coach

Coach Michael is a Fairfax Crew Club alumni and returning coach from the Fall 2023 racing season. He has 6 years of rowing experience through high school and college rowing. He also stays active in the rowing community by volunteering in race events and instructing scullers over the summer. Michael is the current president of the George Mason University Crew Club.

Midori G.

Assistant Coach

Coach Midori is an Athlete-Scholar with the George Mason University D1 Women's Rowing Team, studying Kinesiology. In addition to serving as a Physical Therapy aide and academic mentor, she also serves in leadership within the student body: as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and Morgan's Message Ambassador (for mental health advocacy.) Coach Midori is an award-winning Rower, having won over six awards while at GMU - and selected to row at the World University Games as a member of the USA University Team in 2025.
